Macao and Gambling March 18, 2007

This is a very interesting article about gambling in Macao, China. Macao is the only city in China that allows gambling. Many foreign investors have poured a lot of money into this city, a former Portugese colony. I think that this proves that “one country, two systems” is not just pertaining to Hong Kong. Remember that Macao made more revenue last year than Vegas. Here’s the link:

Wow! So many parallels between Vegas and Macao. Do you remember when Vegas tried to be more family-friendly? The article mentioned the Sands and Wynn thought that families would visit Macao as well. And both started as a sort of playground for the rich and then shifted to the middle class market. But it seems as though the changes are happening in Macao a lot faster than Vegas. I’m sorry to be ignorant, but where is Macao? I guess I could Google it. The mention of reclaimed land reminded me of my project on HK Dsiney, which is also built on reclaimed land, alongside HK airport.
